ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Louise Slaughter have joined with employees of a Rochester radio manufacturer to celebrate the firm's share of a $12.7 billion contract with the U.S. Army.

The two Democrats met Friday with workers at Harris Corp. to hail the recently awarded contract and to push for more federal investments for the company.

Harris was recently selected as one of three suppliers for the Army's 10-year, $12.7 billion contract for Manpack radios, which are used to help soldiers across a platoon communicate.

The contract came nearly a year after the Army selected Harris as one of two suppliers of another radio system worth $3.9 billion.

The lawmakers also said a new production line for a third radio system has been installed at Harris, supporting 150 jobs.
