CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A special delivery to the International Space Station will have to wait at least another day.

Thick clouds and rain prevented an unmanned Atlas V (five) rocket from lifting off Thursday evening from Cape Canaveral, Florida, with 7,400 pounds of space station supplies. Friday is the next opportunity, but more bad weather is expected.

NASA is eager to get back on track with U.S. deliveries. The space agency's last commercial shipment occurred nearly eight months ago. Launch failures, one in October 2014 and the other in June, grounded both of its suppliers.

Orbital ATK is using another company's rocket to launch this shipment, as it works to get its own rocket, the Antares, flying again. NASA's other contracted supplier, SpaceX, also remains stuck on Earth.
