CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The owner of appliance repair companies in Charlotte has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleaded guilty in a fraud scheme.
The U.S. Justice Department said in a statement Thursday that 42-year-old John Wesley Clark of Charlotte had pleaded guilty in June to wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
Prosecutors say Clark's companies submitted $577,000 in false work order claims to the electronics company Samsung. He had admitted false claims between 2010 and 2012.
Court records show Clark owned and operated six appliance repair businesses. Prosecutors say he established his companies as authorized service centers and then submitted fraudulent warranty work orders.
U.S. District Judge Frank Whitney also ordered Clark to pay nearly $577,000 as restitution to Samsung and nearly $185,000 to the IRS.
