NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- A Toyota Motor Corp. subsidiary plans to sell a new "Coms" one-seater electric vehicle for a price of around 600,000 yen as early as next month, industry sources said Friday.
Toyota Auto Body Co. will keep the vehicle's price below that of its older version of Coms by using parts made overseas, with the aim of attracting larger demand in the domestic market, the sources said.
The previous Coms, launched in 2000, recorded sluggish total sales of about 2,000 units through May 2011 as it required 13 hours of battery charge time and had a maximum speed of only 50 kilometers per hour.
The latest model is expected to require less charging time.
