Siemens' Building Technologies Division launches the RDG, RDF and RDU product lines, a new generation of communicating room thermostats that excel in high energy efficiency and versatility and that can be integrated into the HVAC Synco control system. The choice of connection facilities enable the products to be used on a wide variety of applications. Also, the thermostats offer ease of installation and ease of operation.

The new communicating room thermostats of the RDG / RDF / RDU lines from Siemens are based on the KNX standard protocol, enabling them to be used in connection with the HVAC Synco 700 control system. The products are easy to install and easy to commission. Configuration of the communication functions requires no tools.

Thanks to their innovative features, the thermostats help save energy and cut costs. The functions provided by them ensure maximum energy efficiency and include individual room temperature control with centrally predefined setpoints, four operating modes (Automatic, Comfort, Economy, and Protection), setpoint limitations for heating and cooling, automatic control of fan speed, and demand-dependent central air handling. Also, an absence-presence function is available, overriding the time program of the Synco 700 system. All these functions are controlled via KNX.

What's more, the thermostats offer a number of connection facilities for external sensors, such as room temperature and changeover sensors, and for signal sources, such as presence detectors or keycards, with the help of which energy efficiency and comfort can be further enhanced.

All models of the RDG / RDF / RDU lines excel in modern design and can be easily fitted in any kind of room. Thanks to their large display and intuitive operating concept, the thermostats deliver a high level of user-friendliness. Temperature values (concurrent reading in degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit, if required), time of day and other parameters can be read easily, and the backlight facilitates operation in the dark. All models feature a button lock to prevent tampering.

The product portfolio in the form of two RDG and two RDF models plus one RDU model cover a broad area of application: From fan coil units to variable air volume control, chilled ceilings and radiator heating systems.

The thermostats of the RDG line are designed for wall mounting while the RDF / RDU models are suited for semi-flush mounting on recessed conduit boxes conforming to BS 4662. Using the ETS software, the products can also be integrated into third-party systems.

In recognition of their straightforward design and their user-friendly operating concept, the thermostats of the RDG line were presented the renowned China Red Star Design Award 2010 by the Bejing Industrial Design Center (BIDC).

The new room thermostats of the RDG / RDF / RDU lines are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2010, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about $28 billion, making Siemens the world's largest supplier of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 270 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of the megacities Hong Kong, London, New York, Tokyo, Delhi, and Singapore.
