Siemens to supply power engineering for transformer testing facility in Slovenia

Kolektor Etra (Energetski transformatorji d.o.o.), a Slovenian power transformer manufacturer, has given Siemens Industry Solutions an order to equip a transformer testing facility with new power engineering. The existing testing facilities in Ljubljana, Slovenia, will be expanded with a new transformer set with drive technology, a capacitor installation, the switchgear and control engineering. The new installation is scheduled to come into operation in the beginning of 2012. The order is worth a total of around three million euros.
Etra has been part of the Kolektor Group, based in Idrija, Slovenia, since the beginning of 2010. The company makes and sells power and step-up transformers with a rated power of up to 500 MVA and a rated voltage of 450 kV. The existing testing facility is to be expanded so that it can test transformers with higher powers and voltages.
In the course of the modernization project, Siemens will supply switchgear for the 20 kV infeed, a 10 MVA transformer set with drive technology and converters, and a 100-MVAr high-voltage compensation system. The scope of delivery also includes a 6 kV generator switchgear for currents up to 1000 A. The entire testing facility will be automated with Simatic S7-300 programmable logic controllers. Visualization will be provided by the HMI system WinCC. Siemens will also be responsible for the design of the concept, engineering, installation and commissioning of the electrical equipment. The plant was designed in close cooperation with the Siemens Competence Center for test facilities in Nuremberg (Germany).
