Manufacturers and Small Business Owners Launch Online Campaign to Protect American Jobs09/12/11 - In a continued effort to rein in the aggressive overreach of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) launched an online campaign today in conjunction with a multi-state radio ad campaign calling on Congress to pass the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act. The online campaign, bolstered by radio ads and a major grassroots effort, highlights the latest in a series of NLRB actions that are causing unnecessary uncertainty among employers while unemployment remains above 9 percent and the U.S. economy is struggling to recover.
The web ads seek to call national attention to the NLRB’s actions against the Boeing Company, which could force the closure of a major manufacturing facility at a time when a major American employer is looking to expand operations and create thousands of new jobs. The ads call on Congress to prevent the Board from dictating where businesses can and cannot create jobs in our country. This initiative brings together small business owners and manufacturers of all sizes to educate policymakers and the public on the stark economic consequences of the NLRB’s actions.
“Manufacturers want to help lead our country’s economic recovery, but instead they are being met with resistance and roadblocks at the hands of government agencies like the NLRB,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. “I’ve heard from manufacturers all over the country about how the actions of a handful of appointees overwhelmingly will hurt their ability to create jobs and will create uncertainty when it comes to deciding where to expand. We are taking important steps to rein in the NLRB, and we ask Congress to take action. Last week, we filed a lawsuit to stop the Board’s posting requirement rule, and we are urging members of Congress to vote to pass the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act.”
“It is clear that the NLRB has strayed from its role as an impartial arbiter to instead become just an extension of labor unions,” said NFIB President and CEO Dan Danner. “This new atmosphere has created a chilling effect on businesses of all sizes. The NLRB has crossed beyond the scope of its legal authority in its zeal to punish businesses, and it needs to be reined in before more damage is done.”
A new poll released today by the Public Notice shows that 74 percent of Americans believe consumers and businesses are overregulated, with 78 percent siding with Boeing in the NLRB case. This clearly demonstrates that business owners are concerned about the slew of harmful actions coming from the NLRB and their impact on job creation.
