Manufacturers: House Vote a Positive Step Toward Protecting Jobs

-  Today the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act. The legislation reins in the aggressive agenda of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The NLRB’s actions are threatening jobs and causing uncertainty for manufacturers as they struggle to recover from the economic downturn.

“Today’s bipartisan House vote clearly demonstrates that Congress believes the NLRB has overreached and needs to be stopped,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. “The NLRB’s actions are having a chilling impact on job creation and causing a great deal of uncertainty for manufacturers throughout the country. Today’s vote is just one step in the process of reining in this rogue agency. Manufacturers thank the members of the House who voted to pass this bill today. To protect jobs the Senate must take up this legislation as soon as possible.”

A recent survey of NAM members found that 69 percent of respondents believe the NLRB’s actions will hurt job creation. Manufacturers remain extremely concerned about other NLRB actions in addition to the complaint against the Boeing Company, such as the “ambush elections” rule, the Specialty Healthcare decision and the posting requirement rule.

Leading up to the vote in the House today, the NAM and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) partnered in a multi-state radio and web ad campaign urging members of Congress to pass the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act. Additionally, last week the NAM filed a lawsuit against the NLRB to stop the posting requirement rule.
