Manufacturers Urge House to Stand Up to the EPA and Protect Jobs
09/23/11 - National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Vice President for Energy and Resources Policy Chip Yost issued this statement on H.R. 2401, the Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation (TRAIN) Act, which delays the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Utility MACT and Cross-State Air Pollution regulations and requires an analysis of the impact of several environmental regulations:“This vote in the House is an opportunity for members of Congress to save jobs by eliminating an $18 billion increase per year in utility costs, which would result in the loss of 1.4 million jobs by 2020. The Boiler MACT and Cross-State Air Pollution regulations are merely two of many overreaching regulations from the EPA that are causing uncertainty among manufacturers and putting jobs at risk when we desperately need them. Manufacturers call on members of the House to take a stand for jobs and support the TRAIN Act.
Manufacturers are making significant investments in new technologies to reduce emissions and are constantly working to reduce their impact on the environment. Now is not the time to saddle them with additional unachievable regulations that will have little benefit.
Manufacturers are looking to Washington for policies that will help them grow. Today the House can take a step in that direction by passing the TRAIN Act to delay these harmful EPA regulations.”
