(Kansas City, Kan., August 8, 2011) - EPA Region
7 will host a public meeting tomorrow night to discuss the results
of its off-site environmental sampling of properties near the
Carter Carburetor Site in St. Louis, Mo.
The public meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 9
p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, at the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls
Club, 2901 N. Grand Avenue, in St. Louis. Representatives from EPA
Region 7 will discuss the results of surface soil, sediment and
vapor intrusion air sampling that occurred in May 2011 at several
properties adjacent to the Carter Carburetor Site.
EPA’s sampling was conducted at the
request of community members who are concerned about possible
environmental health hazards associated with the Carter Carburetor
building.
The Carter Carburetor Site, a large industrial
property, is located at 2800 to 2840 North Spring Street, in north
St. Louis. The former carburetor manufacturing plant operated from
the 1930s until it closed in 1984. EPA has been addressing
hazardous waste conditions at the site under the EPA Superfund
Removal Program.
