Manufacturers Urge Senate to Take Up Pipeline Bill Passed By House

-  National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse issued the following statement urging the Senate to pass H.R. 1938, the North American-Made Energy Security Act, which was approved by an overwhelming bipartisan vote in the House yesterday:

“Manufacturers urge the Senate to act swiftly to pass legislation to set a hard deadline of November 1, 2011 for the President to approve the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which will establish energy stability, prevent supply chain disruptions and help create the environment necessary for manufacturers to create jobs. The House of Representatives made a clear statement in favor of economic recovery by passing the North American-Made Energy Security Act by a strong bipartisan vote of 279-147.

The Keystone XL pipeline will create an estimated 130,000 jobs and spur economic growth in the manufacturing sector by creating demand for the goods necessary to complete the project, such as concrete, valves, pumps, steel and various sensors to monitor and successfully operate the pipeline.

The Keystone XL pipeline will help sustain our nation’s economic recovery. Manufacturers encourage the Senate to join the House and act quickly to increase our energy supply and put Americans back to work.”
