Manufacturers Support Streamlining the Permitting Process to Expand Domestic Energy Supplies and Create Jobs

-  National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse issued the following statement today in support of H.R. 2021, the Jobs and Energy Permitting Act:

“Red tape, bureaucratic delays and prolonged litigation to obtain permits under the Clean Air Act have prevented job creators from accessing up to 1 million barrels of oil per day. This legislation would eliminate these barriers and allow for the increased development of domestic energy off the coast of Alaska in an environmentally responsible manner. It would also create tens of thousands of high-paying jobs at a time when unemployment is at 9.1 percent.

Manufacturers consume one-third of our nation’s energy supply and need access to affordable and reliable energy to grow and compete in a global marketplace. Further delays prevent manufacturers and their employees from making and supplying equipment, services, engines, boats and materials such as steel and concrete that stimulate the economy and contribute to expanded domestic production.”
