Manufacturers: FTAs Need to Move Quickly for Jobs and Growth

-  National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons issued the following statement today after the announcement from Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus (D-MT) on the markup of the pending trade agreements:

“Manufacturers are pleased that the conversation on pending free trade agreements (FTAs) continues among policymakers because these agreements will bring job growth and economic expansion.  Moving the FTAs forward in an expedited fashion is critical to manufacturers who cede market share to their overseas competitors each day that these barriers exist.

Manufacturers call on the White House and Congress to move ahead with the Colombia, Panama and South Korea agreements, and are hopeful that a bipartisan, bicameral solution is reached quickly with the Administration. At a time when our economy is struggling to regain its footing, the agreements should be approved quickly so that we can see new markets opened and, most importantly, begin filling the 100,000 new jobs they will create.”
