Manufacturers Applaud World Trade Organization’s Ruling

-  National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Vice President for International Economic Affairs Frank Vargo issued the following statement today in response to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Appellate Body’s ruling on illegal government subsidies in the aerospace industry:

“Today’s ruling sends a strong message that manufacturers must abide by world trade rules. A level playing field with fair and open markets that is free of government intervention is essential for manufacturers in the U.S. to remain competitive in the global marketplace. By upholding the WTO’s ruling, the Appellate Body sets an important precedent that government intervention in the development of the aerospace industry is a clear violation of the rules.

Manufacturers believe it is important to our nation’s economic growth and competitiveness that both the U.S. and the European Union and its member states adhere to global trade rules. Adherence and enforcement of trade rules in the aerospace industry is beneficial not only for competition but for consumers, who benefit from better products.”
