Leading Edge: Popular crossover now a Top Safety Pick

The new 2011 Ford Edge, brimming with a wealth of safety technology, has earned an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick, making for 10 Ford models to attain this coveted ranking. The Edge features advanced airbags such as Safety Canopy® side curtains and pioneers an available radar-based collision warning with brake support crash-avoidance system. Edge led its segment in sales in March and was the launch vehicle for MyFord Touch™, the company's industry-first driver connect technology. The 2011 Ford Edge is EPA-rated at an unsurpassed 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Ford survey sheds light on parents' risky driving behaviors

U.S. teens and tweens say their parents are riskier drivers than they claim, according to a new survey commissioned by Ford. While nearly all parents say they are safe drivers and good role models, 51 percent admit their kids have asked them to slow down, to stop talking or texting by hand, and to practice safe driving behaviors. And 80 percent of kids have seen their parents engage in risky actions behind the wheel. Meanwhile, Ford continues to invest in new safety technology and is ramping up its Driving Skills for Life program, extending its cost-free training to 30 more markets in 2011 to provide parents and new drivers with enhanced tools and driving skills. To date, 400,000 students have participated in the program.

Global color studies: Classics rule with Ford customers

Despite an array of vibrant car colors, U.S. customers on the coasts and customers in most European countries prefer classic core colors – white, black, silver and gray. These findings are from Ford's annual look at U.S. car-buying preferences as well as an international color study by Du Pont. Gray and silver are most popular in New York and Los Angeles; San Franciscans like white, Bostonians like black. Only one country in Europe has a top color other than white, black or silver: The Czech Republic chooses blue. New innovations, like tri-coat pearl technology and tinted clear coats, also keep colors fresh by adding a modern twist to classic hues.
