Unigen Corporation, a leading designer and manufacturer of OEM class memory products, today released their highly anticipated Orion1500 SAS series of enterprise class SAS SSDs. The Orion1500 SAS is a dual-port 1.5/3/6 Gbps native SAS SSD based on the SandForce SF-1565 SSD Processor and the Emulex BR-456 SAS-to-SATA bridge device.

The Orion1500 SAS includes true enterprise level reliability features including state-of-the-art ECC with up to 24 bytes correctable per 512-byte sector, an on-board super capacitor for data preservation in the event of a sudden power loss, and integrated super capacitor health monitoring. This series of SSDs has passed Unigen's rigorous design verification testing, which includes thermal testing and compatibility testing with a variety of server platforms.

Unigen's signature 2.5" SAS SSD supports blazing performance of up to 25,000 IOPS which is markedly faster than competing HDDs. With sequential transfer speeds approaching 260 MB/sec, this capitalizes on the bandwidth offered by its 6Gbps SAS interface. The Orion1500 SAS series is offered with SLC, e-MLC or MLC flash technology in usable capacities up to 400GB.

"The SF-1565 processor is designed for exactly this type of product to service applications where both extreme reliability and performance are paramount," said Thad Omura, VP Marketing for SandForce. "We are excited to leverage Unigen's unrelenting development work in advanced storage solutions to accelerate volume Enterprise SSD deployments, and the Orion1500 SAS series stands as a result of our joint efforts."

"This high capacity, high performance SAS SSD is an excellent example of Unigen's leadership position as an enterprise class, flash storage products supplier," said Paul W. Heng, CEO of Unigen Corp. "Our strategic, collaboration with SandForce and Emulex was extremely instrumental in getting this highly reliable, enterprise SSD to market expeditiously."

Unigen's Orion1500 SAS SSD gives enterprise server OEMs a new choice in high performance, extreme reliability storage. The company is excited to announce immediate sample availability to OEM customers. Unigen will be exhibiting their technology at the Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara, California, August 17th - 19th, 2010 at booth ?515.
