Wavelink Corporation (www.wavelink.com (http://www.wavelink.com) ) today announced plans to extend its smartphone support by offering mobile device management (http://www.wavelink.com/solutions/management.aspx) for the devices running on the Apple iOS… platform, the Research In Motion BlackBerry… platform, and the Google Android… platform. Support for managing new smartphones will be included in the next major release of Wavelink@ Avalanche@.

Wavelink Avalanche provides centralized configuration, deployment and management of mobile devices and wireless infrastructure across local and wide area networks. The software provides comprehensive support for mobile devices on Windows Mobile…, Windows CE…, Palm OS… and DOS operating systems along with embedded OS devices, printers, RFID readers, time clocks, access points, switches and many other wireless devices.

By extending support for managing Apple, BlackBerry and Android mobile platforms, Wavelink bolsters Avalanche compatibility with smartphones that began this month with the ability for remote help desk personnel to use them to solve mobile device and application problems in the field. A remote administrator can use his or her smartphone to directly connect to a mobile device that needs attention to perform tasks such as verifying the registry or starting and stopping processes.

"With the continued proliferation of multiple device types into the enterprise landscape, many companies will find that choosing a mobile device management solution with cross-platform support is essential," says Stacy Crook, senior research analyst with IDC's Mobile Enterprise research group. "Successful MDM companies will not only provide robust device management and security functions that can support broader sets of the wireless environment but will also enable device choice as well."

In use by more than 10,000 companies in the retail, manufacturing, government and logistics industries, Wavelink Avalanche improves the productivity of mobile workers, increases network security and reduces the total cost associated with owning and managing mobile devices and peripherals.

Lamar Van Wagenen, president and CEO of Wavelink, said, "Wavelink provides device and infrastructure management to the widest range of devices and platforms on the market. By listening to our customers and following industry trends we have been able to continue providing support for any new devices and platforms our customers request. Customers are asking us to be able to manage more smartphone devices from the same Avalanche console that manages their rugged mobile devices, and we'll begin offering support in our next major release."
