The advent of smartphones has enabled wireless operators to deliver new services and thousands of applications that increase consumer loyalty and attract higher revenue-generating subscribers. However, the proliferation of sophisticated wireless phones and other connected devices has added a new level of complexity for network operators. SmartTrust (http://www.smarttrust.com/company/company_about.asp) , a developer of SIM and Mobile Device Management (MDM) software for mobile operators, and Red Bend Software (http://www.redbend.com/) , the market leader in Mobile Software Management (http://www.redbend.com/solutions/index.asp) (MSM (http://www.redbend.com/solutions/index.asp) ), today announced the completion of interoperability testing between their products.

This interoperability will enable operators of wireless networks to further improve the consumer experience by adding new features and applications over the air to handsets and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) modules used on current and future wireless networks.

The successful testing demonstrates how key elements of the continued rollout and upkeep of emerging wireless services must work together to enable operators to successfully address the ever-changing requirements of their networks and the consumers who use them.

SmartTrust and Red Bend completed Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA DM) interoperability testing as well as a number of interoperability tests between a client and server demonstrating the ability to support operations including:

"The need for active customer service has become increasingly important as subscribers see today's devices, particularly smartphones, as an extension of their lives," said Marianne Arosenius, managing director, SmartTrust. "Subscribers of wireless service have great expectations. Ensuring that their mobile devices will reliably keep them connected to the services and applications they crave will lead to increased consumer loyalty to the service provider throughout the entire subscriber lifecycle. At the same time," Arosenius said, "50 billion new connected devices are expected to continue to operate automatically but it is too costly for organizations to manually conduct regular software updates on these machines and modules. The ability to utilize our SmartProvisioning platform to remotely manage these devices over the air with the assurance that they will work with a leading device management client is crucial to the success of the M2M market. SmartTrust is focused on delivering real solutions that support our customers' many business needs while helping to decrease costs."

The interoperability effort involved two Red Bend products -- vRapid Mobile (http://www.redbend.com/solutions/firmware-updates-hw.asp) @, the leading solution for updating firmware over the air (FOTA) and managing software and applications on mobile devices, and the company's vDirect Mobile (http://www.redbend.com/solutions/device-management.asp) , an OMA-DM compliant and interoperable device management client for mobile phones and wireless devices in the mobile, WiMAX and machine-to-machine (M2M) markets -- and SmartTrust's SmartProvisioning (http://www.smarttrust.com/smartprovisioning) , a platform for mobile device and M2M management.

"In the fiercely competitive mobile industry, network operators are continuously challenged to deliver an ever-higher level of service, features and applications to maintain customer loyalty and increase revenue per user," said Lori Sylvia, executive vice president of marketing for Red Bend Software. "The interoperability of SmartTrust's and Red Bend's solutions ensures that network operators will be able to take full advantage of the ability to update and manage devices over the air, decrease customer service costs and elevate the subscriber experience with new software and applications."
