Kanebo Cosmetics Expands To China

The Japanese cosmetics maker said it will initially start selling its products at about 500 specialty cosmetics stores to target young women.

TOKYO, Aug. 29 (Kyodo) -- Kanebo Cosmetics Inc. said Monday it plans to boost sales in the growing Chinese market by expanding sales channels, while launching a new brand targeting young women.

The Japanese cosmetics maker said it will initially start selling its products at about 500 specialty cosmetics stores in China including inland cities where the market is in the process of expanding, in addition to department stores and pharmacies.

The company aims to increase the number of specialty cosmetics stores through which it will sell its products to around 1,000 by the end of this year.

In line with the participation in the specialty stores, Kanebo will release Aqua Lunash, a new brand manufactured in China targeting women in their 20s, in September.

The company has set prices of items under the new brand between 12 Chinese yuan (about 140 yen) to 210 Chinese yuan (around 2,500 yen), making them readily accessible to young women in the age group, it said.

The brand will also be available at department stores, Kanebo said.
