Louisiana's U.S. senators are applauding a deal to fix 300 homes in the ongoing legal wrangling over defective Chinese drywall.
On Thursday, Chinese drywall manufacturer Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co., along with suppliers, builders and insurers, agreed to repair up to 300 homes in four states and possibly thousands more damaged by corrosive drywall.
U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu says the deal is "a ray of light" for homeowners "who have seen their dream homes turn into a nightmare." She says Congress needs to do more to ensure Chinese companies do not dump defective products on the U.S. market in the future.
U.S. Sen. David Vitter calls the deal "good news," but adds that more needs to be done "to ensure that all the victims receive just compensation."
Thousands of other homeowners will not be covered by the deal because they have drywall from other Chinese manufacturers that have ignored the U.S. courts.
