A study commissioned by the state's Economic Development and Labor departments says Nebraska has a diverse economy, making it well-positioned for economic growth.

The $220,000 study compiled by nonprofit independent research organization Battelle Technology Partnership Practice was released Thursday.

The study report says five industries have emerged as Nebraska strengths, with growth outpacing national rates. They are: financial services; companies providing transportation, warehousing and distribution logistics services; precision metals manufacturing; bioscience-related firms; and renewable energy.

However, the report says Nebraska has had trouble translating its growing research and development base into new products and companies, among other things.
