Covidien Products Protected By German Injunction

Company said a German court awarded preliminary injunctions against five companies accused of infringing on a patent and copying the design of its surgical stapling products.

DUBLIN (AP) -- Irish medical device maker Covidien PLC said Monday a German court awarded preliminary injunctions against five companies accused of infringing on a patent and copying the design of its surgical stapling products.

The company also said German officials seized products from each of the companies. Covidien identified two of them: J.ZH.FA. Panther Healthcare Medical Equipment Co. Ltd. and WuXi Shenkang Medical Instrument Equipment Co. Ltd.

Covidien said four of the companies are based in China and one is based in the United Kingdom.

Covidien said it will continue to "vigorously protect" its intellectual property.
