Volkswagen Sales Up In September

German automaker says its global deliveries were up nearly 8 percent on the year in September and rose 12.7 percent in the first nine months of 2010.

BERLIN (AP) -- Volkswagen AG says its global deliveries were up nearly 8 percent on the year in September and rose 12.7 percent in the first nine months of 2010.

The company said Friday that the Volkswagen Group -- which includes brands such as Audi, Skoda and Seat -- delivered 663,100 vehicles last month. Between January and September, it delivered 5.37 million.

It said January-September deliveries in China were up 39 percent at 1.48 million vehicles and that it delivered 267,500 in the United States -- up 21.2 percent.

Volkswagen saw a modest 1.1 percent increase in sales in Europe, delivering 2.5 million cars.

That came despite a 19.3 percent decrease in Germany, where year-on-year comparisons have been weighed down by the expiry a year ago of a popular car-scrapping bonus program.
