Demand From China Boosts BMW Sales

Automaker says its deliveries were up 12.5 percent compared with the same month last year -- with China again helping power sales higher.

BERLIN (AP) -- BMW AG says its deliveries were up 12.5 percent in August compared with the same month last year -- with China again helping power sales higher.

The company said Thursday that it delivered 103,239 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers worldwide last month. That was up from 91,800 in August 2009.

Deliveries for the first eight months of 2010 also were 12.5 percent higher than a year earlier at 919,258.

BMW sales executive Ian Robertson said the company is seeing "a stable upward trend."

He said Asia, and China in particular, "was the most powerful force driving our sales growth once again in August."

Robertson said BMW and Mini sales so far this year amounted to over 106,000 -- more than for the whole of 2009.
