Cognex Promotes Exec To President, COO

Maker of machine vision sensors and systems said Tuesday that it has promoted Robert Willett to president and the newly created position of chief operating officer.

NATICK, Mass. (AP) -- Cognex Corp., a maker of machine vision sensors and systems, said Tuesday that it has promoted Robert Willett to president and the newly created position of chief operating officer.

Willett, 42, will still serve as president of the modular vision systems unit, but as president of the company he will now also oversee the surface inspection systems division. Thomas F. Nash remains president of the surface inspection systems unit, but will now report to Willett.

Cognex Chairman and CEO Robert Shillman said in a statement that it was always part of the plan for Willett to become the company's president when he started as president of the modular vision systems division in 2008.

Willett will still report to Shillman.
