VF Splits Outdoor Division

Apparel maker said Tuesday it will split its outdoor segment -- which includes brands such as The North Face, Jansport and Vans -- into two separate units.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Apparel maker VF Corp. said Tuesday it will split its outdoor segment -- which includes brands such as The North Face, Jansport and Vans -- into two separate units. Dave Gatto, current president of VF Outdoor Americas, is leaving as part of the reorganization.

VF said its Outdoor Americas unit will include the North Face, JanSport and Eagle Creek brands. It will be overseen by Steve Rendle, 49, currently president of The North Face.

The second unit, action sports Americas, will include Vans and Reef brands. It will be led by current Vans president Stephen Murray, 48.

All changes are effective Feb. 1.

The outdoor segment has been one of VF's top performers. In October, the company -- which also has a jeanswear unit that includes brands such as Lee and Wrangler and an imagewear division -- said its third-quarter profit rose 13 percent on strength in outdoor apparel sales.

VF also named Scabbia Guerrini, 44, as president of its sportswear and contemporary brands in Europe, Middle East and Africa coalition, another new unit. He had been president of VF international sportswear and packs.

Shares fell $2.90, or 5 percent, to $53.23 during morning trading during a broader market decline.
