WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Keith Smith has been named Director, Employment and Labor Policy at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the nation’s largest industrial trade association, NAM President John Engler announced today. Smith replaces Jason Straczewski in this position.
“Keith will be a strong asset for the NAM in articulating and advancing the employment and labor issues of concern to manufacturers and their employees across the nation,” said Engler.
Smith will engage in a number of high-priority policy issues including the protection of secret ballot elections for union membership and issues related to the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Ledbetter and other key employment or labor-related initiatives that are essential to enhancing manufacturing competitiveness and job-creation.
Smith joined the NAM in December 2005 as a Policy Analyst and was soon promoted to Director of Research. In this role, Smith was responsible for monitoring legislative issues, instituting political and policy research and developing advocacy materials to advance the NAM agenda.
