N.C. Plastics Firm Expands, Adds Jobs

Carolina Technical Plastics Corp. investing $5 million and creating 50 jobs over three years.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A plastic parts manufacturer in Craven County will expand operations, investing $5 million and creating 50 jobs over three years, Gov. Mike Easley said Thursday.

Carolina Technical Plastics Corp. employs 70 workers at its plant in New Bern. The company makes plastic parts for the automotive and home appliance industries.

The average weekly wages of the new jobs will be $600 plus benefits, compared to the county's average wage of $563 without benefits.

Chief executive Udo Wirthwein praised the state's help with workforce training and said the North Carolina location was near its major markets.

The company, founded four years ago, received a $75,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides taxpayer-funded financial assistance to recruit businesses or encourage expansion in the state.
