Zippo Marks 75 Years

Friday's celebration for Zippo Manufacturing Co., the largest employer in northwestern Pennsylvania's McKean County, marked its 75th anniversary.

BRADFORD, Pa. (AP) - Zippo Manufacturing Co. lit up Bradford's night sky with a parade and fireworks celebration to mark its 75th anniversary.

Dozens of people came from across the region to participate in Friday's celebration for Zippo, the largest employer in McKean County, an area of northwestern Pennsylvania along the New York border.

''I have some (relatives) that work for Zippo. My sister-in-law has worked there for something like 40 years,'' Mike Reid of Bradford said. ''Zippo does a lot for the community.''

Fire departments, bands and even marching dogs with blinking lights on their collars took part in the parade, and spectators were encouraged to hold up their own lighters and glow sticks. The fire departments used blinking lights and sirens to add to the nighttime show.

Mother Nature took part in the fireworks display of the grand finale, contributing an impressive display of lightning.
