Technip has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management services contract by BP-YPC Acetyls Co. Ltd.

PARIS - Technip has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services contract by BP-YPC Acetyls Co. Ltd. (BYACO), the 50/50 joint venture between BP and Sinopec/YPC, for an acetic acid plant located in the Nanjing, Jiangsu province of China.

This plant will have a capacity of 500,000 tons per year of acetic acid and will be based on BP’s Cativa technology.

Acetic acid is an organic acid used as a chemical reagent or solvent in numerous industrial applications such as paints, glues, inks, polyester plastics and pharmaceutical products.

Technip’s operations and engineering center in Rome, with the support of the center in Shanghai, will execute the contract in a team integrated with the client.

This contract comes after the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract was completed by Technip in 2006 for the same plant.

The plant is expected to come on line in the first half of 2009.
