January German Manufacturing Turnover Rises 8.6 Percent On Year

Federal Statistical Office said turnover in manufacturing for January 2007 was up 8.6 percent over January 2006 and up 0.9 percent over December 2006.

Turnover in the manufacturing sector in Germany rose 8.6 percent in January 2007 over January 2006, according to the Federal Statistical Office.

Domestic turnover was up 5.9 percent and revenue from business with foreign customers was up 12 percent.

Sales in euro countries increased 10.3 percent and sales to other foreign countries increased 13.7 percent.

By sector, machinery and equipment saw the largest increase with a 13.6 percent rise, followed by fabricated metal products with 13.4 percent. Food and beverages products recorded the smallest increase of 5.7 percent.

January turnover was up 0.9 percent compared to December 2006. Domestic sales slipped 1.1 percent and turnover from foreign customers was up 3.5 percent. Euro area sales rose 5.5 percent and turnover for other foreign countries was up 1.7 percent.
