U.S. Considering Defense-Manufacturing Base In India

Representatives from the US-India Business Council Executive Mission said Monday they would consider establishing defense-manufacturing bases in India in order to increase its presence in the region, according to published reports.

Representatives from the US-India Business Council Executive Mission (USIBC) said Monday they are eager to increase the group's presence in India's aerospace industry by considering the establishment of defense-manufacturing bases in the country, according to a report on outlookindia.com.

"We are looking at increasing strategic partnership with India in not only aerospace but across the entire spectrum of its defense sector. We would also like to set up our manufacturing base in India," Former US Secretary of Defense and Chairman and CEO Cohen Group William Cohen told reporters.

Cohen is currently leading the USIBC to India to attend the Aero India 2007 trade show.

India's rising security profile has made the country a significant market for the aerospace industry. As a result, major US-based defense suppliers are looking at establishing a base in India.
