India’s Industrial Output Continues To Rise

Index from the Central Statistical Organization shows an 11.1 percent increase for December 2006 over December 2005.

According to India’s Central Statistical Organization of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, India’s index for industrial production was 258.3 in December 2006, 11.1 percent higher than December 2005.

Growth for April to December 2006 was 10.8 percent higher than the same time period in 2005, the report added.

The index for industrial production within manufacturing was 275.7 for December 2006, up 11.9 percent from the previous year.

A further breakdown of the manufacturing sector shows that all 17 industry groups have increased in December 2006 over December 2005.

Wood and wood products, furniture and fixtures reported the highest growth with a 29.3 percent increase. Basic metals and alloys and metal products and parts followed with 28.9 percent and 24 percent increases, respectively.
