Paper Or Plastic...Packaging

Study shows plastic will increase market demand to 53 percent in 2010.

According to a recent study, in 18 U.S. markets using plastic and paper as packaging materials, the market share for plastic is expected to increase to 53 percent in 2010.

The study by the Freedonia Group, Inc. expects plastic to expand at a growth rate of 3 percent annually through 2010, due to plastics competitive costs and advantages of paper.

Soy and nondairy beverages and pet food are expected to see the fastest gains for plastic market share, followed by frozen food, fruit beverages and detergents, the study showed.

Paper will see modest growth, primarily in the food service, dairy and soy milk and organic milk applications, according to the research.
