Northrop Grumman, EADS Joint Venture Receives German Defense Contract

Contract for unmanned signals intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance system is worth $559 million.

Northrop Grumman Corp. said Thursday that, EuroHawk GmbH, its joint venture with EADS, has received a $559 million contract for testing and support for an unmanned signals intelligence (SIGINT) surveillance and reconnaissance system for the German Ministry of Defense (MoD).

EuroHawk GmbH will provide aircraft modifications, mission control and launch and recovery ground segments, flight test and logistics support.

The first demonstrator is expected to be delivered in 2010. Four systems will follow with scheduled delivery dates between 2011 and 2014.

The EuroHawk system will be replacing the Breguet Atlantic aircraft fleet, which had been in use since 1972.
