Malaysian Manufacturing Sales, Employment Surge In August

The sales value of Malaysia’s manufacturing sector jumped 12 percent in August.

The sales value of Malaysia’s manufacturing sector jumped 12 percent in August, according to a report Wednesday from the Malaysia Department of Statistics.

The preliminary release showed the manufacturing sector grew by RM4.8 billion to RM44.9 billion.

Employment in the manufacturing sector in August rose 9 percent or 89,069 jobs to 1.08 million total positions as compared to the same period in 2005.

The total salaries & wages paid in August increased by 10.2 percent or RM174.4 million to RM1,882.0 million from RM1,707.6 million paid one year ago and was 1.7 percent lower tahn in the previous month.

In the first eight months of 2006, the manufacturing sector registered total sales of RM332.1 billion, an increase of 10.9 percent versus January-August 2005.
