'Material About Materials ' Unveiled For Industrial Designers

ASM's Mtrl will provide "material about materials" for product design development.

A new industry initiative, Mtrl, designed to bring "material About materials" to industrial designers will debut during a two-day workshop on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in Cleveland.

Mtrl, developed by ASM International, the Materials Information Society, aims to bridge design and engineering with information about design materials for industrial designers, expanding ASM's scope which has traditionally been engineers and scientists.

According to Laura Marshall, ASM's director of business initiatives, Mtrl will provide tangible experiences with materials, promote experimentation, and inspire design through exposure to materials from the everyday to the extraordinary.

The Mtrl workshop will focus on types of metals, surface finishes, physical properties, manufacturing costs and case studies, and will include tours of Don Drumm Studio in Akron and Moen Inc.'s design and product headquarters in North Olmsted.
