Rohm And Haas Sells Floralife To Smithers-Oasis

Floralife will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Smithers-Oasis.

Smithers-Oasis Co.,a manufacturer of floral foam and related products, has purchased Floralife, Inc., a supplier of post-harvest floral products, from AgroFresh, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Rohm and Haas Co., a specialty materials manufacturer headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa.

Smithers-Oasis, headquartered in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Floralife, with headquarters and a manufacturing facility in Walterboro, S.C., have complementary product lines, including the manufacturing of products for the grower/greenhouse industry.

According to Robin M. Kilbride, Smithers-Oasis' President and CEO, Floralife will be operated as a wholly owned subsidiary.

“With its vast distribution network, Smithers-Oasis is positioned to accelerate Floralife’s growth globally and we look forward to exploring an ongoing relationship with Smithers-Oasis and its Floralife subsidiary,” said Erin Doherty AgroFresh's General Manager for Floriculture.  “Meanwhile, AgroFresh will continue to leverage its expertise in ethylene management and focus on its core competency in related quality management systems for the fruit, vegetable and floral industries.”

Smithers-Oasis is best known for its OASIS Brand Floral Foam, a water-absorbing foam invented by V.L. Smithers in 1954, that allowed florists to hydrate flowers while securing them in the desired arrangement.
