Japanese Auto Production Slipped In Second Quarter

Japanese auto production was down slightly in the second quarter, according to statistics released by a national manufacturing association.

The Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association reported that second quarter production totaled 2.7 million units, a decrease of 1.3 percent from the same period a year ago. According to the association, the decrease was mainly due to a drop in overseas production in the North American, Asian and other markets.

Results for the first half of calendar 2006 were up from the previous year, increasing 5.6 percent to 5.4 million units, due to expanded local production in the Asian and European markets.
