Japanese September Auto Production Up Nearly 3 Percent

Japanese auto production rose 2.8 percent in September, as compared with the same period in 2005, according to a report released Monday.

Statistics from the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association said auto production in September totaled just over one million units.

Domestic sales in September 2006 decreased 3.5 percent to 546,963 vehicles as compared with the same month the previous year.

Exports of cars, trucks and buses were up 15.5 percent compared with a year earlier, marking an increase for the 14th consecutive month. Vehicle exports totaled 531,773 worth $12 billion, including $9.5 billion for vehicles and $2.5 billion for parts.
