A major US snack food manufacturer wanted to reduce the labor cost related to maintaining its conveyors plus have increased flexibility in how these units could be utilized given height restrictions within its various facilities.

Hapman engineers were quick to see that conventional designs were inadequate and designed a new system that would that meet the customers needs. This system featured an innovative high/low pivoting mobile frame coupled to a high performance Helix(tm) flexible screw conveyor. The frame is a sanitary design, using round and angled stainless steel, for easy wash-downs. In addition, it has large, hard rubber casters that can be locked in position to provide a stableplatform during the loading and discharge operations.

The attached food grade Helix conveyor also incorporates polished stainless steel along with quick release clamps and a durable plastic auger casing anddischarge head. A pivot was placed in the food grade frame along with a linear screw actuator system. When activated the entire length of the conveyor could be brought down to a near horizontal position. Service, wash-downs and auger changeovers could then be easily handled by a single person, safely at floor level, without the need for ladders or other special equipment. In addition, moving the 12-foot high conveyor to various parts of the plant can be accomplished easily, even through standard height doors.

The unit shown is the first of a series of special application conveyor systems that Hapman will be developing over the next year for the food & chemical industries. It is expected that these new hybrid systems will be able to replace multiple conveyors in many applications.

Hapman provides the Helix conveyor in 20 to 80 diameter sizes up to 409 in length. Standard construction, food grade, sanitary and 3-A Accepted units are available. With only one moving part, the Helix is one of the simplest conveyors on the market today. It is easy to service, clean and maintain with a total dismantle time of only 5 minutes - without the need of special tools. Capacities are from 10/cfh to 1,800/cfh, depending upon the material to be conveyed. Up to 5 different auger configurations are available, including the new XL rounded edge flat-wire auger, to assure extended performance and the best possible processing rates.

A long list of options such as vibrators, level sensors, agitators, aerators, special hopper configurations and controls systems are also available to help fulfill the needs of most industries that are involved in the processing of powders and bulk solids. Hapman provides appropriate conveyor solutions for its customers from its three choices of conveyors - Tubular Drag, Helix Flexible Screw and MiniVac Pneumatic. In addition, Hapman manufacturers manual bag dump stations with dust collection, bulk bag unloaders, bag filling and batch weigh equipment with a wide range of system options.
