BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A fire destroyed a Lewistown business that manufactures pet bedding and litter and biofuel pellets.

Lewistown Fire Chief Keith Kucera tells The Billings Gazette (https://bit.ly/1eXVAxK ) the fire at Mountain Meadows Pet Products was reported at 12:06 a.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, the 4,000-square-foot facility was burning heavily and he expected it would be a total loss.

Kucera says a plant manager told him they may be able to salvage some of the equipment, but it could cost more than $2 million to rebuild.

Mountain Meadows manufactures catbox filler, bird cage bedding, small animal bedding and biofuel pellets out of straw and other plant fibers.
