LATHAM, N.Y. (AP) -- Hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer Plug Power Inc. said Thursday that the diversified U.S. manufacturer 3M Co. will supply membrane electrode assemblies for its GenSys fuel cell units being sold in India.
The company said the fuel cell systems are being deployed in rural India and will replace diesel generators at remote telecommunications sites.
The GenSys units change liquefied petroleum gas into a hydrogen-rich substance that is converted into electricity in the fuel cell stack.
Shares of Plug Power soared 30 cents, or 32.6 percent, to $1.22 in midday trading. 3M shares rose $1.51, or 2.1 percent, to $74.65.
