Maryland Firm Aims To Build Wind Turbines

Group of investors say they hope to start building wind turbines at two former Brunswick boat factories in Maryland by the end of the year.

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- A group of investors say they hope to start building wind turbines at two former boat factories in Cumberland and Salisbury by the end of the year.

John Congedo (kahn-JEE'-doh), president of Grantsville-based AC-Wind, told the Cumberland Times-News on Tuesday that the firm is awaiting permits from the Maryland Department of the Environment, federal stimulus funding and an agreement it is trying to negotiate with an unidentified wind-power company.

Congedo says AC-Wind already has contracted with Brunswick Corp. to use its former boat-manufacturing plants in Cumberland and Salisbury.

He says the company could employ as many as 700 people making wind-turbine blades in Salisbury and housings in Cumberland.
