Siemens, Statkraft Building Solar Plants

German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG says it will build several solar power plants in Italy with state-owned Norwegian utility Statkraft AS.

FRANKFURT (AP) -- German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG says it will build several solar power plants in Italy with state-owned Norwegian utility Statkraft AS.

Munich-based Siemens did not disclose financial details but says it is its largest European solar power agreement to date. Siemens also declined to say how many power plants the order is for or where they will be built.

Starting this spring, Siemens will perform the engineering, project management and construction of the plants, which should connect with the energy grid in late 2010.

With a total capacity of 40 megawatts, the plants will be able to supply power to 14,000 households, Siemens said Thursday.
