Siemens Lands Wind-Turbine Contract For UK Wind Farms

Siemens will be providing 54 wind turbines for two British offshore wind farms, providing 180MW of power.

Siemens Power Generation has won a contract to provide 54 wind turbines for two new British offshore wind farms.

The combined maximum capacity of the wind farms will be 180 megawatts for the Lynn and Inner Dowsing project in Lincolnshire on the east coast of England. This is the second time that the Siemens 3.6-MW wind turbines will be deployed offshore.

The project is through British Gas’s parent company, Centrica, and Siemens will assume responsibility for operation and maintenance for an initial period of five years.

Siemens Wind Power also has two ongoing offshore projects in Sweden and Liverpool Bay on the British west coast. Both projects are scheduled for commissioning in late 2007.

Upon project completion in 2008, Lynn and Inner Dowsing will be Britain’s largest offshore wind farm development. The turbines will supply approximately 130,000 household customers served by British Gas and Scottish Gas with wind-based electricity.
