McDermott Unit Gets Scrubber Contract From Allegheny Energy

Project expected to completed by 2009.

McDermott International said Friday its Babcock & Wilcox subsidiary received a contract from Allegheny Energy for engineering, materials, construction, start-up and commissioning of wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) units at the Hatfield's Ferry Power Station in Masontown, Pa.

Work will be completed on Hatfield's Ferry Units 1, 2 and 3, all 576-megawatt boilers originally supplied by B&W in 1969, 1970 and 1971, respectively. B&W will supply the FGD systems, commonly called scrubbers, for each unit including absorber areas and a common reagent preparation and dewatering system.

Engineering for the project is underway at B&W's Barberton headquarters. The expected completion date is 2009.
