Chart: Top Electric Car Markets

Norway leads the world in plug-in electric car adoption in terms of market share, while China tops the list as largest market. China's 2.3 percent is the highest percentage of passenger sales in the five largest passenger car markets. So why is Norway so enthusiastic about electric cars? Slightly more than half of all new cars purchased in 2017 in Norway were plug-in electric cars. As part of a government effort to sell only zero-emissions cars after 2025, Norway has deep tax exceptions and benefits such as free parking for electric vehicles.
