Ricardo, an engineering firm that specializes in propulsion and energy systems, announced that it will establish a new manufacturing line at its facility near Detroit. The $24.1 million project looks to design, develop and supply a gasoline-powered internal combustion engine for a customer and create 114 jobs.
Ricardo did not identify the customer but said the engine will serve as its flagship product.
“We're delighted to be growing our footprint in metropolitan Detroit, a region with a long, proud history of automotive technology,” Ricardo CEO Jason Oms O'Donnell said. “Having been established in Southeast Michigan for over 35 years, we’re excited to embed ourselves further into region.”
The Michigan Strategic Fund offered support to the project through a Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant worth $855,000. Southeast Michigan Works! also plans to provide workforce development support services.
Headquartered in England, Ricardo operates U.S. facilities in Detroit and Sterling Heights, Michigan.
