Bentley Motors announced the Torcal as its first electric vehicle and newest model line, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. The company also released the first image, which shows the rear of the car.

The Torcal takes its name from El Torcal de Antequera, a limestone landscape in Andalusia, Spain, known for its stacked rock formations, cliffs and labyrinths shaped over millions of years. The name also traces back to the Latin word torquere, meaning to twist, which is the origin of the modern term "torque.

Engadget reported that spy photos during Arctic Circle testing highlighted a fastback-like aesthetic. A separate sighting at Germany's Nurburgring track showed portions of the interior, including red leather and black Alcantara, a large curved display and mechanical tactile controls.

The latest development comes nearly five years after Bentley first announced plans to create an electric SUV. The company has committed to becoming exclusively electric by 2035.

“Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters and may just be the most considered car in our history,” Chairman and CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser said.

Bentley plans to unveil more updates in the coming weeks as it preps for the full reveal on September 23 in London.
